ECO-WASTE has the experience of handling transboundary waste in accordance with the Basel Convention. Our experience includes the management of waste and exportation to the UK including Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORMs) waste.

It begins with the processing of Basel Convention permit application through the Mauritanian EPA and the environmental agency of the country of destination of the waste in question. The waste shipment is arranged when the permits for transfer have been approved.

NORM wastes are often generated when carbon-based materials like coal and petroleum are burned. This is because trace amounts of uranium, thorium and other radioisotopes are naturally found in these materials and will linger in waste products even after combustion. When concentrations of radioactive matter increases past certain threshold -- then the materials may be classified as NORM or TENORM (Technically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Waste) and would require special handling.

ECO WASTE handles NORM and TENORM wastes from industrial sources nationwide. We also manage NORM wastes from water treatment plant filtration systems, another common source of this material. We handle every aspect of NORM and TENORM management. This includes characterizing your residuals through lab analysis as needed, transportation, exportation via the Basel convention, disposal and documentation.
